Driver and child OK after SUV crashes into building in Miami A dangerous drive with a toddler on board sent an SUV careening into a building in Miami.City of Miami Police units responded to the scene of the crash in the area of Northwest Seventh Avenue and 71st Street, at around 7:40 a.m., Saturday.Investigators said two people were inside the vehicle, the driver and a child.No one inside the building was injured.Bystander Aaron Combs described what he saw and how he jumped into action to help.“Well, technically all I know that this car just – the gas accelerated, he jumped the curb and went in, and I ran behind to make sure, and I see him holding the baby,” he said. “I had to go get the baby and him out. That was it.”Neither the driver nor the child appeared to have any injuries, but they were taken to the hospital as a precaution.The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Good Samaritan helps employee being attacked at CVS in Miami; man arrested A good Samaritan jumped into action to protect a store employee and stop a suspected shoplifter.Peter Walker said he saw the employee being attacked by the assailant, who was asked to leave the store on Biscayne Boulevard and 48th Street, Saturday afternoon.The customer said he took action in order to help the victim.“The guy was acting erratic in the store, he hit one of the ladies, so I ran out and tackled him,” said Walker. “He was trying to get away, so I held him down long enough for the cops to get here.”City of Miami Police units quickly responded and arrested the suspect.The CVS employee appeared to be OK.

Fun for all ages and back-to-school resources at 2023 Children’s Trust Family Expo in Miami Family fun day has never felt this cool in the summer heat.The Children’s Trust kicked off their 15th annual Family Expo, the largest free family resource event in Miami, on Saturday at Booker T. Washington Senior High School.Attendees got to enjoy face painting, music and complimentary meals, all while accessing valuable resources for the upcoming school year.“We’re providing information on after-school programs, we’re providing free book bags, a lot of school supplies,” said Ximena Nunez, The Children’s Trust’s director of communications. “It’s a lot of resources for families now that they’re going back to school.”The Children’s Trust has even partnered with Uber to provide families with free transportation to the event.The Family Expo doesn’t end Saturday. Balloons were released for 15-year-old Boston Junior, who was just about to start 10th grade, and Makhi Boston, 18, who had just graduated.Police say Makhi was driving the car with three passengers when it veered off the road and hit a utility pole on North Main Street in Randolph.That scene has now turned into a growing memorial that features items from the Brockton Raiders, the youth football team they belonged to.Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.The other two people involved are expected to survive their injuries.
